Rich Fulton is the Global Director of Systems Engineering and Consulting Services at Cumulus Networks. He has an array of fiscal, sales, and technical expertise, coming a long way from his days as a Merrill Lynch financial consultant and finding his true calling in the datacenter industry, most recently leading as Sr. Director of Systems Engineering at Aerohive Networks. At Cumulus, he leads global sales engineering operations, directing a team that is disrupting the networking status quo by providing customers with disaggregated technology that replaces proprietary software imposed by industry giants. Within his role, Rich is energized by the opportunity to impact the business and growth of Cumulus, interacting with acclaimed customers around the world to generate revenue.
Rich is a calm, low-ego problem solver and a passionate team-motivator. He loves to see his team succeed, and therefore takes extra care in understanding how they work best so he can cast them into roles that utilize their strengths. To be a successful systems engineer on his team, reports must stand a middle-ground between informed technologist and confident salesman, exercising the ability to educate customers about why they should break away from familiar, outdated software. Rich also emphasizes that they should be effective multitaskers who can balance the needs of multiple customers at once. His team works cross functionally with software engineers and product management to prioritize customer needs and feature implementation with the goal of optimizing revenue.
Rich is an avid musician and competitive golfer, spending most of his time practicing guitar or competing in weekend golf tournaments. A San Diego resident, he also tries to hit the beach as often as possible.
