Co-founder JR Rivers taps Leslie to lead company’s next phase of growth; Rivers to serve as Chief Technology Officer

Mountain View, Calif., March 21, 2016 - Cumulus Networks®, a leading provider of enterprise Open Networking solutions, has named Josh Leslie as Chief Executive Officer. Leslie, an 18-year technology veteran, assumes the post today after nearly a year as Cumulus Networks Vice President of Sales. JR Rivers, who co-founded the company, will continue setting technical direction and vision in the role of CTO.

Leslie brings a strong track record driving growth for enterprise technology companies. As Cumulus Networks VP of Sales since June 2015, he has led engagement with hundreds of new customers, more than doubling the Cumulus Networks customer base and significantly expanding the company’s footprint within the Fortune 100 in less than a year. Prior to joining Cumulus Networks, Leslie ran worldwide field operations at Instart Logic where he was responsible for signing the company’s first 150 enterprise customers. He also spent six years at VMware where he held roles in sales, operations and business development as the company scaled from $100 million to $1 billion in revenue.

“I work with Josh every day, and through those interactions, I came to realize that he is the ideal person to lead Cumulus Networks. Having Josh at the helm will allow me to focus completely on my passion: technology and products that customers love,” said Cumulus Networks Founder and CTO JR Rivers. “Josh is a natural leader and exhibits business acumen in spades every day. As one of our own, he brings a deep understanding of our customers’ needs from day one. He also gets our culture and has already earned my trust, and more importantly, the trust and respect of the entire team.”

Cumulus Networks helps customers build better, faster, easier networks. More than 400 organizations of all sizes – from small businesses to the largest web-scale data centers in the world – use Cumulus® Linux®, the original operating system for open networking, to build affordable, high capacity networks. Cumulus Linux dramatically reduces the cost to build and operate infrastructure and eliminates the vendor lock-in that came standard in networking for decades. Cumulus Linux runs on more than 30 hardware platforms from Dell, HPE, Edge-Core, Agema, Penguin Computing, Supermicro, Quanta and Mellanox.

“JR has built a company that has done nothing short of turn the networking industry on its head. Three years ago, when Cumulus Linux was released, open networking was a compelling vision. Today, it is reality. With mega-scale production deployments and hundreds of production customers, Cumulus Linux has become the de facto standard network operating system in the data center,” said Josh Leslie, CEO, Cumulus Networks. “I’m honored to work with this incredibly talented and committed team and our extraordinary partner ecosystem as we continue to deliver great value to our customers.”
