We’re very excited about Openstack Summit this year in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to having our CTO and founder Nolan Leake as a featured speaker (see below for details), Cumulus Networks will be visible across the show.

Cumulus Networks alliance partners including Midokura (booth E44), Mirantis (booth D1), and Metacloud (booth E15), will be showcasing Cumulus Linux in on the floor. Mirantis and Metacloud – both offer “OpenStack as a Service” solutions to customers enabling orchestration deployments. Cumulus Linux with its Open Networking enables a tightly integrated OpenStack solution. Midokura, which offers network virtualization is also tapping the power of networking without constraints by adding Cumulus Linux to its product and overall business model. Furthermore, Cumulus Networks’ longtime customer DreamHost (Booth #E35) will host demos given by Nolan Leake. I would not miss this rare opportunity to tap into a demo and take in perspective from one of the longest standing users of Cumulus Linux.

We think this is going to be one of the biggest summits to-date for a number of reasons:

First, one of enterprise IT’s most predominant organizations will be keynoting. Dell will hold an array of keynotes and we’re looking forward to hearing Dell’s Adnan Bhutta, director of global strategy, share insights around why open networking and SDN for OpenStack Cloud is such a big deal (see below for details). Of course, this is quite significant not just for us, but the entire community of organizations that champion liberating networking hardware from a proprietary OS. As a partner to Dell, we anticipate Adnan’s presentation will be thought provoking and will deliver an interesting perspective on the developments in an open environment in cloud and datacenters.

VMware’s Peter Balland, Somik Behera, Eric Lopez and others will touch on a span of different topics- one of the sessions we’re looking forward to is Eric’s OpenStack Networking Hands-On Lab on Wednesday, May 14th at 4:30pm.

Last, but definitely not least, Nolan will speak alongside Chet Burgess, VP of Engineering, at Metacloud about the hottest trends in overlay networks and VXLAN. In particular, Nolan and Chet will dive into:

How Neutron and other OSS tools can be used to provide L2 connectivity to VMs via VXLAN over a non-blocking ECMP IP fabric
Demonstrate how a simple service node script can eliminate the need for multicast in the physical network
Demonstrate the use of an extension of the existing Linux Switch ml2 plugin to connect physical network devices (routers, firewalls, load balancers, etc) into VXLAN based virtual networks.
Those in attendance will have the chance to catch a Broadcom Trident II based switch running Cumulus Linux 2.0 live, and we’re excited to hear everyone’s feedback. We also encourage you to visit Cumulus Networks and DreamHost at booth E35 for another set of awesome demonstrations.
