According to a recent IDC survey, digital transformation was ranked as the #1 primary strategy that is driving IT infrastructure investments. In this age of digital transformation, applications have gained unprecedented importance as the differentiator(s) by which companies deliver customer service and drive business outcomes. And this means that the network must adapt both architecturally and operationally so that it can align with application needs and business objectives.

The traditional network has not (and will not) keep pace. In fact, 70% of organizations are now considering network disaggregation to meet the agility and automation demands of the network.  

But it isn’t just the network architecture that has to be agile.  As IDC states, networking teams need to work with developers, DevOps and lines of business to support the applications that are driving business platform requirements. Network engineers who gained proficiency in configuring legacy routers and switches must now learn new skills in areas such as network virtualization, network automation, Linux, SDN, and DevOps.
